Roundtable Discussion on Global Conflicts with Robert Malley

Yangon May 24, 2019: U Thant House hosted a roundtable discussion with Mr. Robert Malley (President, International Crisis Group), Laurel Miller (Director of Asia Program, International Crisis Group) and Richard Horsey (Analyst, International Crisis Group). Leading figures from government, academia, and civil society participated including Naw Pan Thinzar Myo (Minister, Yangon Region Government), Kaythi Soe (Director General, MOFA) and young scholars and researchers participated the discussion. Dr. Thant Myint-U moderated the discussion with U Thant House Executive Director Sofia Busch and Program Officers Ma Khin Htet Htet Lwin and Ma Su Nwe in attendance.

Exchange with academics from Yunnan, China

Yangon, May 23, 2019: U Thant House hosted an exchange on the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and regional issues with Prof. He Zukun, President of the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences (YASS) and other scholars from YASS. The discussion was chaired by Dr Thant Myint-U.

Unveiling of U Thant Statue in Lumbini, Nepal

Nepal, May 17, 2019: A statue of former United Nations Secretary-General U Thant was unveiled at Lumbini in Nepal on 17 May 2019. The statue is an initiative of the Lumbini Development Committee. Dr. Thant Myint-U attended the unveiling ceremony at the invitation of the Government of Nepal. U Thant visited Lumbini in April 1967. He was the first to suggest its development as an international pilgrimage site and symbol of tolerance and world peace. He said then that visiting the birthplace of the Buddha was "one of the most important days of my life".
