Seminar on 'Youth and Global Challenges' by Kofi Annan

Former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan visited the one-time Yangon home of his predecessor U Thant. At U Thant House, he met with Dr. Thant Myint-U as well as 20 young Myanmar leaders from many different backgrounds including civil society leaders, businesspeople, professionals, and activists, all under 30 years old. The discussion with young Myanmar leaders was on the topic of "Youth and Global Challenges".

Dr. Thant Myint-U said: "Kofi Annan is in Myanmar for the Rakhine Commission. He had wanted to visit U Thant House and we thought it would a be good opportunity for him to discuss global issues with young people". "U Thant and Kofi Annan were both outstanding Secretaries-General, dedicated to world peace, development, and human rights. Both were from non-Western countries and served at difficult times for the UN. I'm delighted that my former boss, who was a very good boss, is here today to visit this old home of my grandfather”.

Dr. Thant Myint-U worked for United Nations, mainly in peacekeeping operations, for more than 12 years. He served 7 years under Kofi Annan, including as his Chief of Policy Planning in the Department of Political Affairs.
